Homebase Melville is your ideal suburban backpackers located in the vibrant heart of gold in Africa – Johannesburg. It is in easy walking distance to the famous 7th Avenue with all its fantastic eateries, clubs, galleries, bookshops, offbeat clothes shops and music bars. Melville is unique in its “vibe” as it reflects the surrounding Media/Arts/Student communities in this part of Johannesburg.
Previously Melville International Backpackers, and recently taken over by the HomeBase group, it has seen major upgrades and improvements. Reconfigured and redecorated to maximize the experience and stay of our guests, you can expect an international level stay with a South African flair. Join us for a light breakfast every morning from 7:30 to 9:30 including toast, cereal, tea and coffee. Just what you need to get the day going.
We are very centrally located, minutes’ walk from a Shopping Centre and with quick access to quaint coffee shops. Post office, trendy clothes shops and lively bars. There is a large variety of transport solutions, Tuk Tuks, metered cabs and 6km away the Johannesburg, Park station and Gautrain station.
Upon arrival you will be greeted with a warm welcome, and be pleasantly surprised by our funky, yet cozy, hostel where we can accommodate all types of travelers including dorms, private rooms, en-suite rooms, family rooms and camping (limited and only on request). Join us for a drink around the pool, or maybe a bite to eat at one of our Braais (Barbeque for all you non South Africans).
You will find conveniently located flyers, tours, information, maps and ever friendly staff with a wealth of information, giving you everything you need to complete your holiday experience. Canopy That Tree
Between Hartbeespoort and Rustenburg lies the 120 km Magaliesberg mountain range – a beautiful natural environment only 1,5 hours drive from Johannesburg. This 2400 million year old rock formation is the second oldest in the world and its surroundings are an ideal location for a full day of fun.
