Peaceful and Calm

Khotso means peace. Khotso has been offering horse riding in the Southern Drakensberg for well over a decade and making this most incredible activity accessible to all intrepid travellers visiting this beautiful mountain range. The largest horse trails specialist in the area, we see ourselves as the perfect basecamp both to explore and to unwind.

Founded and run by wild adventurer Steve Black, it’s no surprise that Khotso retains its crazy and welcoming attitude.

We are the only operator running regular and bespoke multi-day cross-border horseback expeditions into the untouched wilds of Lesotho and we offer a range of unique accommodation.

Whether you choose our rustic Backpackers Lodge, iconic self-catering Rondawels, pristine campsite or magnificent hand-built log cabin, we’ll have something ideal for your solo trip, your romantic getaway or your group of friends.

Khotso Horse Trails

Nestled at the foothills of this magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site for exceptional natural beauty, Khotso has become synonymous with horse riding in the Southern Drakensberg. Open all year round, our horse trails all start from the Khotso Backpackers Lodge and criss-cross over 1,300 hectares of rolling Khotso land. Eland’s Peak sits at 1,800m above sea level, whilst 5km of the beautiful Mzimkulu River flows through the farm as well. Read More

I really enjoyed the earthy feel our of our chalet that we stayed over in. The activities really tired us out a lot, and the places were a good spot to recuperate after!
